Mickleover Vets secured all three points with a hard-fought 1–0 victory in today’s local derby against Mickleover Country Park Vets.
We started brightly and created plenty of opportunities in the opening half. The breakthrough came when C. Palms produced a superb 30-yard diagonal ball, releasing Betts, who outpaced the Country Park defence before keeping his composure and placing his finish into the bottom corner.

We continued to create chances and really should have put the game out of sight before the break, but some excellent saves from the Country Park keeper kept the score down.
HALF-TIME: MFC Vets 1–0 Country Park Vets
The visitors pushed for an equaliser after the restart, but the Mickleover defence was solid all afternoon, standing firm and limiting their opportunities.
At the other end, we kept creating chances but couldn’t find that second goal. Efforts went over or wide, while anything on target was dealt with by an outstanding performance from the opposition goalkeeper.
With only minutes remaining, we were awarded a penalty. C. Palms stepped up looking to smash it into the top corner, but the keeper produced another superb save to keep the contest alive.
Mickleover saw out the remaining minutes to secure the clean sheet and, most importantly, all three points.
