Before starting his career in football management, Billy was a no nonsense old school centre half at Lincoln Utd.

Bridlington was his first managerial post in 2000, where he stayed for six years, before moving to Frickley Athletic. Just over four years later, he moved to North Ferriby Utd, where he took them to league and cup glory in consecutive seasons.

They were FA Trophy winners in 2015 and were then promoted to the National League, via the play-offs, before he moved onto to FC Halifax.

It was after 18 months at the Shay that he began his long and successful association with Alfreton Town. They reached the National League North play-offs twice, won the Derbyshire Senior Cup twice and reached the FA Cup second round proper, only going out to Walsall after a replay.

Last September he finally ended his seven years stint after becoming the clubs second longest serving manager in the clubs history.
