Message from John McGrath

I am delighted with how pre-season has gone. All the lads are looking fit and I am especially delighted with our start to the new season with 5 points taken from our first 3 games.

Congratulations to Andy Dales who on his 150th competitive appearance for Sports scored against Lancaster City at the weekend.

We have added some good quality over the summer with new additions Bradley Grayson, Evan Garnett, Ben Morris and Danny Gordon all having positive affects on the team.

I am delighted with the impact of my backroom staff as well. Liam Walshe and Clinton Morrison have really taken to their roles and as a manager it is nice to have people behind me who I 100% trust.

The academy boys have started their pre season as well ahead of the new campaign which starts again in Sept. The boys have been working hard with myself and my fellow academy coach Andy Dales. The next generation to hopefully follow in the footsteps of Lewis Belgrave, Jordan Gilhooly, Jake Dickinson and Morgan Williams.

What great success the hot August night was. It shows how far we have come as a club.

I was delighted to sign my new two year contract and this allows me the opportunity to really plan for a brighter future here at Mickleover Sports.

Regards

John

Two new signings on eve of Season

Mickleover_Sports_FC-92

Mickleover Sports are delighted to announce the double signing of Jimmy Phillips and Jermaine Palmer!

Phillips, a 27-year-old winger, is best-known for his 137-game spell with Burton Albion in the Football League. He’s also been on the books at Gateshead, Altrincham and Alfreton.

Jermaine Palmer plies his trade up front, and at 30 years of age he has plenty of goalscoring experience. The Derby-born player started his career at Stoke City.

Both signings arrive as we finish off our preparations for our opening game of the season against Witton Albion tomorrow. We’re at home, so we look forward to seeing you at the Don Amott Arena for a 3 o’clock kick off!

Season starts this Saturday 12th August

Sports will be getting their 2017-18 Evo Stik Northern Premier League season started against promoted Witton Albion at the Don Amott Arena on 12th Aug KO 3pm. The Albs had three seasons on the Conference in the early 90s and will be a tough start for John McGrath’s young side.

Sports aim to blunt Blades in friendly finale. Friday 4th Aug 19.30 ko

Sheffield_United_FC_logo.svgSports end their friendlies at the Don Amott Arena with the visit of Championship side Sheffield United.

United won the League One title last season after 6 seasons down there. They will be one of the teams to look out for to maybe reach the play-offs this season.

Sports supporters will be looking forward to the return of favourite Jake Bennett. Benno made 87 appearences for Sports scoring 4 goals, but more than that terrorising left backs. Benno has been doing well for the Blades Under 23s last season.

We also may see the return of Goalkeeper Jake Eastwood who played 23 times last season.
