Mickleover Sports drop points after being ahead for the second straight match as they suffered a confidence crushing 3-1 loss at home to Whitby Town.
Callum Patton played an influential role for the Blues to get all three points as he got Whitby back on level terms and then put the nail in the coffin in the 83rd minute.
Patrick Webb scored his third goal in two games as he put Sports ahead after 31 minutes. This is the second straight week that Sports have dropped points after taking the lead. Manager, John McGrath believes that this week’s performance is more concerning than at FC United of Manchester:
“We led three times last week and got a point against a very good side, we led today and lost the game. Today is more concerning than the draw last week.”
Losing the ball at the back and a lack of composure was to blame for the home side conceding three goals. Going forward, Sports did look dangerous, however, whenever Whitby were on the front foot, they looked like scoring. McGrath stated that:
“They did the basics better than us today, the conditions played a massive part and when it’s like it was today, the basics need to be done.”
This week’s fixture could have seen Sports move up to eighth in the league, they have now dropped to 13th. With a tough mid-week fixture coming up against Basford United on Tuesday, February 11th. McGrath believes that Sports need at least 10 points from their next four matches to be within playoff contention.
