Sports Sign New Keeper

With regular keeper Oliver Bosworth still on the road to recovery, and loanee Lewis Ridd picking up an injury in the game at Redditch, Mickleover have signed former Turkish 6ft 5 ins Youth International goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin.

Greenwich born, Liverpool paid Millwall £1m to sign him as a 16 year old, but despite making the first team squad he never got the break.

After 3 ½ years he was released and joined Kasimpasa in Turkey, before playing in league two with Crawley Town.

National League Dover Athletic was his next move, and he spent last season with Maidstone Utd, before being released after a loan spell at Welling Utd.

He has been playing in Northern Ireland this season with Harland & Wolf Welders, but after playing for Sports Reserves a few days ago, he has now signed permanently.

Ex Fox Joins Mickleover

Central midfielder Ethan Fitzhugh has joined Mickleover until the end of the season, on a dual registration with National League North’s Banbury Utd.

Fitzhugh was previously at Leicester City and signed for Banbury following his release last month and made his Mickleover debut as a second half substitute in last Saturday’s home win.

 

A Message from Club Treasurer Neil Hadfield

Last Night I met at the club with Vic Handley. I have known Vic for sometime now as a supporter of the club and through his work with the Umbrella Charity.

The reason I met with Vic was to look at a space for him to bring along a boat to the Kettering Town game. Not just any boat this is a boat that Vic will call home for 3 months as he attempts to complete the toughest rowing challenge in the world. Vic is going to Row solo across the Atlantic. He will leave from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and row to Antigua. A mere 3000 miles.

The ambition is to raise £200,000 for his chosen charities.

Having met Vic in the past and knowing a little bit about him, successful businessman, keen sportsman, who entered the boxing ring for the first time at the age of 56. He has also rediscovered his love of football through playing walking football. Vic being Vic this was not just at any level, he has represented England at the age of 65 and has also very proudly captained the England side on two occasions. I have no doubt that this challenge, though daunting, will be met with his usual determination.

Last nights weather was not the best and it was in driving rain that Vic and myself measured out the area that we hope to place his boat at the Kettering game. We chatted for a short while about the challenge ahead of him and the club intend to get fully behind Vics latest sporting challenge.

Vic will be at the game against Kettering Town on the 24th Feb along with his boat. I encourage everyone to stop and have a chat with him and wish him all the best. Maybe even put a donation to his effort?

Bapaga Joins Sports

Mickleover manager John McGrath has been busy in the transfer market again, signing Buxton’s Will Bapaga on a dual registration.

A winger or attacking midfielder, Bapaga came through Coventry City’s junior ranks, and made his first team debut in 2019 as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers.

He went on to make two more first team appearances for the Sky Blues and was also loaned to Grimsby Town, before being released last summer.

He initially went on trial with Huddersfield and scored in a pre-season friendly. But in November he joined National League North Buxton and has made five appearances, before coming to the Don Amott Arena,

We are delighted to bring Will into the club at this critical part of the season. We feel he has all the attributes to be a huge success during his time with us and sure he will enjoy playing our attacking and direct style of football.

McGrath added.

Mickleover are grateful to Buxton for concluding the deal to bring Will to Station Road.

Sports Sign Three!

Last week ended wth a busy couple of days at the Don Amott Arena, with manager John McGrath making three signings in before Saturday’s match at AFC Sudbury.

With Fin Delap having been recalled by Burton Albion, 17 year old Will Tamen has now arrived from the Brewers, on loan until the end of the season.

Tamen is a centre back to and has been captain of the development squad. He signed professional last September and made his league debut against Peterborough Utd. He also came on as a sub in the EFL Cup games against Everton Under 21’s and Blackpool.

Kyle Rowley is also an experienced centre back, who has joined us from Barwell. He is a former Walsall Junior and played for Sutton Coldfield, Alvechurch, Hednesford and Stourbridge too.

Finally left side midfielder Brendon Daniels has arrived on loan from Stourbridge, who he joined at the start of this season.

He played his Junior football with Crewe, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers and played in League One with Port Vale. He is a former England C International and has played for Tamworth, Harrogate, Fylde, Alfreton, Altrincham and Telford too.

Tamen went straight into the starting line-up at Sudbury, while both Rowley and Daniels were unused subs.

A big welcome awaits all three players at Mickleover FC.

New Striker For Mickleover

Mickleover signed former Notts County and Lincoln City striker Tyrell Waite from Ilkeston on the eve of Saturday’s game at home to Barwell Town.

The Derby born striker started his career with Ilkeston, before a three year spell at Notts County. After a number of loan spells he moved to Lincoln City, before heading for Sweden.

He came back to the UK with Nuneaton Borough and after various other moves, was back at Nuneaton again at the start of last season. 

He joined Ilkeston in September and is a welcome addition to the Mickleover strikeforce.

A Message from Coalville Town

Can you all please be aware that construction of our new 3G training point has commenced, this means that car parking is currently restricted on site. There will be parking for the coach, and cars for club officials and match officials but it will be restricted for supporters. Any away supporters should park in the public car parks in the town which are a 5-10 minute walk.
